Privacy policy

This policy explains what Nepali Study collects and why. Many of our users are school students. If you are under 16, please read it with a parent or guardian.

Reading without an account

You can read notes, books and videos without an account. We don't ask for any personal information to read.

What we collect when you create an account

• Your name, email address and password (stored only as a secure hash), or your Google account's name and email if you sign in with Google.
• Optional profile details you choose to add: class, stream and school.
• What you do on the site: test answers and scores, bookmarks, reading progress, and notes you write on books.
• Messages you send in chat, doubts to teachers, assignment work you hand in, and your questions to the AI tutor.
• Basic technical data needed to run the site securely: sign-in sessions, and IP addresses used for rate limiting.

How we use it

• To run the features you use (tests, leaderboards, chat, teachers, the AI tutor).
• To keep the site safe: preventing spam and abuse, and handling reports.
• To send emails you need: verifying your address and resetting your password.

We don't sell your data or show you targeted ads.

Who else processes it

• AI tutor: your questions and the recent messages in that AI chat are sent to Anthropic (the maker of Claude) to generate answers.
• Hosting and storage: our database, file storage and email providers store data on our behalf.

What other users can see

Other students can see your name, and your scores on leaderboards. You can hide your school and your stats in Account settings, and people you don't know can't message you unless you allow it.

Cookies

We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in, and we store your light or dark theme choice on your device. We don't use advertising cookies.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time in Account settings. This removes your profile, test results, progress, AI chats and assignment work. Chat messages you sent stay in other people's conversations, but no longer show your name.
